An auspicious day is selected for the 'cheka' and 5, 7, 9 or 11 members from the groom's family accompanied by the groom go to bride's home with some jewellery, a sari, sweetmeats, dry fruits and cash gifts. These gifts are known as the 'cheka'. The bride and groom exchange rings and after the ceremony the bride's family reciprocate the gesture by taking gifts for the groom.
